E9x 11-Piece M3 Control Arm Upgrade Kit

This product is a comprehensive kit that includes control arms for both the 1-Series M and M3 models. It is a direct replacement for the non-M E82/E88 1-series and non-M E90/E91/E92/E93 3-series (rear-wheel drive only). The control arms are an essential component that contributes to the handling differences between the M and non-M models, with the exception of shock absorbers, strut assemblies, and springs.

The front control arms of the M models are similar to their non-M counterparts in that they feature two tension struts and two lower wishbones. However, the design of the control arms is what sets them apart. The tension struts have a solid rubber inner bushing that reduces deflection and eliminates the weakness of hydro bushing tearing and leaks. The stiffer rubber bushing helps to tighten up the front suspension without being overly stiff. The lower wishbones have a sealed inner bearing, also known as a monoball, which allows for freer movement of the control arm compared to the non-M rubber bushing. The longer lower control arm adds approximately 0.75° of negative camber, which helps to reduce understeer and improve turn-in response without significantly impacting tire read life.

The rear control arm suspension of the E9X M3 and E82 1 Series M is drastically different from their non-M counterparts. The non-M upper control arms are made of rolled steel and feature traditional rubber bushings in both the inner and outer positions. The hollow design of the OE control arms is weak and prone to flexing, particularly under acceleration. The M3 version of these upper control arms are made of solid aluminum and are much lighter than the non-M variants. Similar to the front wishbone, the upper wishbones use a monoball mount that allows for free movement of the control arms under all conditions, which helps keep the suspension stable and planted.
